1---- OVERVIEW from NewSong Diretor

The 2005 Mountain Stage NewSong Festival will have a somewhat different feel and format than in the past, for those who came to NewSong the past three years at the historic Claymont Court estate near Charles Town, W.Va. We've moved out of the country and into town! This year, NewSong shifts to hip, historic, easily accessible Shepherdstown, West Virginia, from Aug. 24 to 28. We continue our celebration of the crafting and live performance of original songs in all genres, from Americana, blues, folk and pop, to world music, jazz, country, hip-hop and a few no one has a name for yet.

At Claymont, we were set up as a traditional music fest, with a big main stage and smaller stages. This year we're moving to a 'Sundance' model. We'll feature NewSong Concerts, Showcases and open mics on stages and in clubs across town: at Shepherd University’s Frank Center, Mecklenburg Inn, the War Memorial Building, the historic Entler Hotel, the Train Station, Rumsey Tavern at Clarion Hotel, Stonewall's Pub, and in jams deep into the night at the NewSong campground at the 20-acre Morgan’s Grove Park near downtown.

We're also introducing the high-powered NewSong Academy. We encourage performing songwriters serious about improving their songcraft and performance skills to get in on the Academy's debut year, featuring some of the country finest song instructors, master songwriters and performers: Steve Seskin, Paul Reisler, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Ysaye Barnwell and Mark Simos.

Performing songwriters and music lovers will still find the same incredible original music and supportive community they've enjoyed the past three years. NewSong is a gathering of the tribes of the singer-songwriter community and people who love original songs in all genres, performed with energy, style and soul. Take a listen to the NewSong Jukebox (if it isn't already running as you read this) for the flavor brought by past participants. See you at NewSong!
